From awareness to action: How schools can lead on decolonising education

Educake is delighted to welcome educators to an important and thought provoking webinar:

From awareness to action: How schools can lead on decolonising education, taking place on Tuesday 9th June 2026, 4:00 to 4:45 pm.

This session will be led by Dr Omolabake Fakunle, a TEDx speaker, Senior Lecturer at the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh, and Strategic Lead for Decolonisation on the University’s Curriculum Transformation Programme. Dr Fakunle is also a School Trustee and an Executive Member of both the Scottish Education Research Association and the Society for Research into Higher Education. Her research explores inclusivity in internationalisation through a decolonial lens, and she is widely recognised for helping educators translate theory into meaningful and practical action.

Why this webinar matters

Across the United Kingdom and beyond, more schools are recognising the importance of decolonising education. This work is not a single initiative but an ongoing commitment to equity, representation, and critical engagement. Many teachers tell us they are unsure where to begin, how to build confidence, or how to make this work feel manageable alongside everyday classroom demands.

This webinar is designed to support educators at every stage of the journey.

Dr Fakunle will explore:

  • What decolonisation means in an educational context
  • Why it matters for all learners across all subjects
  • How schools, departments, and individual teachers can begin or strengthen this work
  • Practical, step by step approaches to embedding more inclusive and representative practices
  • Ways to move from awareness into sustained and meaningful action

Whether you are just starting to explore decolonising approaches or already developing initiatives in your subject area, this session will offer clarity, confidence, and inspiration.

Help shape the session

To ensure the webinar reflects the realities of your classroom or school, we would love to gather your questions, challenges, and areas of interest in advance. Your input will help Dr Fakunle tailor the session so it feels practical, relevant, and genuinely supportive.

If you have a moment, please share your questions using our short survey.
