Educake FAQs

Curious about Educake?

Take a look at our FAQs to see if your question has already been answered.

What is Educake?

Founded in 2011 and based in Oxford in the UK, Educake provides online homework and revision for many KS2, KS3 and GCSE subjects.

Educake has thousands of ready-to-go, subject-specific questions, designed to motivate independent learning and make homework more meaningful. They’re automatically marked, they accept spelling mistakes, and they’ve been written by our authors who are teachers and specialist subject editors. Some of the questions are multiple choice, but most of them require students to type out one to three word answers.

Educake also provides tools for analysis. You can quickly assess individual student understanding, compare class and national averages, and identify learning gaps. Armed with this data, teachers are able to spend more time honing their teaching approaches and focusing on what really matters.

What does Educake mean?

Educake is a play on the words ‘Educate’ and ‘cake’. This also refers to the cakes we send out to schools for various reasons, such as for booking a demo, winning a prize draw, or being a school that uses Educake frequently. We also send out chocolate weekly for #FreddoFriday!

Is Educake good for GCSE revision?

Educake is great for GCSE. It empowers students to learn independently; students can create their own quizzes and track their progress on different topics. Our adaptive learning algorithm generates personalised quizzes based on what students need help with, allowing for effective, straight-to-the-point revision. It’s also easy for teachers to track student progress and spot knowledge gaps before exam season. We offer English, science, maths, PE, geography, history, computer science and business at GCSE.

Does Educake do A level?

Currently, Educake do not provide resources for A-level. Educake is primarily used for pupils aged 11-16. We are always open to feedback on how we can improve our product and are constantly developing.

Is Educake free?

A subscription is required to access Educake. However, Educake offer a 30 day, all-inclusive free trial.
For schools, a yearly subscription to Educake includes full access to the subject(s) chosen and quick and friendly help from our support team based in Oxford, UK. Prices vary with age group and subject. There are also multi subject discounts available. Please see our Pricing page for more details.

A monthly subscription is available for individual students. See our At home page.

How do you redo a test on Educake?

Educake allows students to redo a test as many times as they like. We are here to help students learn, not to penalise incorrect answers.

Is Educake good for revision?

Educake uses the principles of retrieval practice and recall, using formative assessment to build knowledge. These evidence-based strategies help the knowledge stick. When students complete a quiz on Educake, they actively demonstrate what they know in a low-pressure environment. And, because thousands of questions have been designed in advance, it’s easy for teachers to create tasks that reactivate and reinforce student’s knowledge.

Is there an Educake app?

There is no app available for Educake at the moment. We are working on a replacement for the old Educake for Students apps that were previously available in the App Store and Google Play Store. Devices that already have the Educake for Students app installed can continue to use it.
