Happy Earth Day! First held in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event used for spreading awareness and coordinating events to care for and protect the planet.
This 22nd April, the theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’. People all over the world are working together on different projects to create a brighter future for the earth.
At Educake we’ve developed a resource to motivate your pupils to join the cause (and have lots of fun doing it!)
Our ideas involve children turning off all power and enjoying free and eco-friendly activities. Good for wallets and good for the planet!

Here are our activity suggestions:
1. Build a pillow fort
This activity is a fun challenge in construction and problem solving, with an element of physical activity. Not to mention the super cosy results! It gives a great sense of achievement as they snuggle into their own personalised space.
2. Play charades
One word, two syllables – sounds like… erm, fun! Charades is a great way to encourage playfulness while working on communication. It can keep children entertained for ages and it’s great fun guessing what they’re trying to say!
3. Board games
Have some board games lying about? Maybe your friends or local library do? Board games are a fantastic no-tech, reusable activity! Encourage some friendly competition and try out different games with the children. Some might like logic games, some more physical games. It’s always good to try something new!
4. Put on a play
If the children in your life could be anything, what do you think they would choose to be?
Find out with some amateur dramatics! Whether you rely on imagination or dive into the dressing-up box, this is a great option for little storytellers.
You can be the audience, or even a co-star!
5. Colouring
Studies have shown colouring to be highly relaxing and have even found that it activates the same parts of the brain as meditation! This can be a good activity to help children unwind.
It also provides an opportunity to teach them about colours and improve their fine motor skills, as all while letting their creativity flow.
